Next Sunday, November 12, marks the debut of our revised publication. We’re praying that this new version of The Lookout will be used widely in our churches. Last week I wrote about The Lookout’s weekly Bible study plan and how Bible students who follow the plan will study through the entire Bible in a six-year period. Here are a few more ways we believe The Lookout will help you grow as a disciple.

Read through the Bible annually. Spend time daily in God’s Word using our annual Bible Reading Plan. The accompanying meditations will help bring biblical truth into focus.

Apply the truth you learn. As you study the Word, we want you to discover fresh ways to apply it. That’s why we’ve added more features to our weekly Bible study segment. To help you process and apply the truths you learn, we’re providing ample space in the publication for note taking, prayer concerns, and personal journaling. Take time during your group or personal study to record your thoughts and insights into Scripture. How does what you’ve learned affect how you’ll pray—for yourself, for others, and for Christ’s kingdom? Record your thoughts in the prayer section. Take time to write out a personal prayer or enter personal thoughts on the journal pages. And remember, the things you write on these pages can be kept and passed along to encourage future generations.

Pursue Christ’s mission. The study and application of Scripture naturally leads us to Christ’s mission. In each issue of The Lookout you’ll find articles devoted specifically to the Great Commission—how to make disciples right where you are. You don’t have to wait for a planned activity or an organized outreach. You can be a disciple maker in your neighborhood and among your family and friends. We want to show you how and encourage you to step out and do it.

Cultivate Christ’s character. The most effective way to honor Christ and witness for him is to live and act like him. Each issue of The Lookout will contain articles that will encourage and challenge you to live and act like Jesus.
