Perhaps you’ve noticed something different about this issue of The Lookout. I’m referring to the size of the publication, of course.

When we relaunched The Lookout last year, we chose to publish it in a size comparable to the size of a standard Bible. That change has served its purpose well. However, in our ongoing quest to improve both the quality and sustainability of The Lookout, we learned recently that we could increase the publication’s size and add additional pages at a cost substantially lower than the cost of the smaller custom publication. It was hard to say no to a win-win opportunity like this. We hope that you’ll find the larger size easier to read, easier to write in, and easier to file away for future use.

And that’s not the only improvement we’re making. I’m pleased to announce that beginning with this issue, The Lookout is available to you online free of charge. Yes, you read correctly. As of now, a digital copy of The Lookout is available to you at absolutely no cost. This same great offer is also available through our sister publication, Christian Standard. The format we’re using for The Lookout’s digital publication allows readers to add notes and comments to their digital copies and save or print them for future reference.

And if you love the print edition, you have nothing to worry about. We’ll continue to publish a print edition for a subscription price so readers can continue to carry their issues with them to their small group or Sunday school class, or simply use them for personal study and devotion.

Faithful readers of The Lookout know that this publication has undergone several changes recently. In the midst of this change, we want you to know this. Throughout its 130-year history, The Lookout has remained faithful to its one calling: to encourage followers of Christ to faithfully study and diligently obey God’s Word.

We hope you like our new print issue and we hope you make use of our free digital issue as well. But truth be told, for both The Lookout and Christian Standard, it’s never been about the publishing medium. That’s important, no doubt, but page dimensions and font sizes have never been the priority. The focus of these publications has always been on getting solid biblical content into the hearts and minds of God’s people so they can grow and become more like Jesus.

These recent changes have been implemented to do just that. And here’s another tremendous benefit we anticipate. By making The Lookout and Christian Standard available online at no cost, we believe we’re opening the door to get our content into the hands of many, many more people—all around the world. This means that English speaking disciples all over the globe will now have access—at no cost—to our study and devotional materials, as well as to the quality materials Christian Standard provides for church leaders. With God’s help, we believe these two publications will be read, studied, and distributed to hundreds of thousands of Christ’s followers. Think about what that will mean for global missionaries, international church planters, faithful disciples, and earnest seekers everywhere.

Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, he instructed his followers and all who would come after them to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). Like never before in its long history, The Lookout will be doing just that.
