“Sundays Are the Worst” Website Invites Conversation

A new website called “Sundays Are the Worst” was started by a Tennessee minister to offer a place of “pure honesty and testimony” for restaurant staff. There restaurant servers can share the frustration they’ve experienced over low tips and poor treatment, especially from Christians on Sundays.

The minister started the site after he heard of another minister who wrote, “I give God 10 percent, why do you get 18?” on a receipt at Applebee’s.

The site’s creator said he hopes that the church crowd will read the thoughts and experiences of servers and rethink their actions and attitudes on Sundays. He said he also wants those who’ve been hurt by Christians to realize that there is a church that really cares about how they’re treated. For that reason, each story receives an apology.

Couple Adopts an Embryo

A couple from Washington has discovered the joy of parenthood, all because of an embryo they adopted.

Husband and wife Matt and Charlie DeVore tried for 10 years to have a child together but were unable to conceive. Then they heard about a program called Snowflakes Frozen Embryo Adoption Program from the Christian nonprofit Nightlight. Snowflakes takes frozen embryos which have been created by couples for their own in-vitro fertilization, but never used, and matches the embryos with new parents.

The DeVores adopted the embryo of a little girl they named C.J. C.J.’s genetic parents were finally able to conceive on their own, so they put their other embryos up for adoption.

There are currently hundreds of thousands of frozen embryos in storage across the United States.

Air Force Academy Erases Bible Verse

The Air Force Academy erased a cadet’s Bible verse from a dry erase board outside of his dorm room following a complaint from an outside organization.

The cadet wrote Galatians 2:20 on his door. The president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation said 29 different cadets and 4 faculty and staff members contacted the organization to complain about the verse. 

The school promptly erased the Scripture, citing that it had created a hostile environment. Administrators also noted that the cadet would not be punished and that if the verse had been found inside his room, it wouldn’t have been an issue.

Many were outraged over the censorship, arguing that the cadet would soon fight for the country’s freedoms while simultaneously having his own freedoms taken away.

Most in U.S. Don’t See Global Warming as Threat

A new poll by Gallup has found that the majority of Americans believe global warming and its effects are happening or will happen in their lifetime. Yet only 36 percent believe global warming will pose a serious threat to their way of life during their time on earth. Older Americans were least likely to see global warming as a threat.

The results were based on Gallup’s annual Environment Poll. The gap between perceived occurrence and perceived threat of global warming remains wide, but it is narrower than it’s been in the past. The numbers of Americans who believe global warming will happen in their lifetime is now the same as it was in 1997, when Gallup first asked the question. It’s among the lower readings over the 17-year span of research.

In 2008, 75 percent of people believed that global warming would happen during their lifetime, which was the peak percentage. That same year, 40 percent of people believed global warming would seriously threaten their way of life.
