1. Some things in life give you energy; other things sap your energy. Ask group members to make a list of the things in their lives that require energy output and include an approximate percentage of energy each item consumes. (For instance: 50 percent of my energy output goes into parenting, 20 percent of my energy output goes into my job, 20 percent of my energy output goes into fixing up my house, and 10 percent goes into managing finances.) When finished, ask members to share their lists.
Read Philippians 2:1-13.
2. Based on these verses, make a list of attributes that describe someone who is “united in Christ.”
3. What are some of the obstacles we face in the pursuit of being united in Christ?
4. Does the pursuit of a “united in Christ” life feel exhausting, or energizing to you right now? Why?
5. What helps restore your spiritual energy?
6. Form teams of prayer partners and share prayer requests. Ask prayer partners to exchange items (something brought to the group or an item from a wallet or purse) that will serve as reminders to pray for one another during the week. Bring the item back to the next group gathering and return it to your prayer partner, updating each other on your prayer requests.
