1. Ask your group to sit in a circle and have each member say his or her full name, explaining the significance of each part (special meanings, who you are named after, and so on).
Read Ecclesiastes 9:13–10:4.
2. Provide several current news headlines (from magazines, newspapers, or Internet sources). Bring enough for every group member to have one (passing them out randomly). Take turns reading the headlines and discuss whether these are “quiet words of wisdom” or “shouts of a ruler of fools” (v. 17).
3. Have you had an experience in your own life where the Lord’s wisdom won out over strength, weapons, and shouts? Describe what happened.
4. We live in a world full of sin and folly, a world where quiet, humble, and wise voices are not often heard. Describe some practical steps to keep folly, misdirection, or over-reaction from tainting the Lord’s wisdom that is at work in your life.
5. Think about situations you or your loved ones are facing right now where the Lord’s wisdom is desperately needed. Mention them to the group and together bathe the situations in prayer during and after your group time.
