1. What is one thing you’ve seen lately that has really impressed you? Do you consider yourself someone who is easily impressed, or hard to impress?
Read Mark 9:2-13.
2. What “shelters” or monuments has the world set up that people worship?
3. What helps keep you focused on Jesus Christ and “listening” to him, even in the midst of so many distractions?
4. How would you explain your everyday worship of the Lord to someone who did not know the Lord?
5. During prayer time give praise to God with everyday objects.
a. Gather a number of objects from your home and garage. Here is a list you can add to: white-out, ruler, pen or pencil, sticky notes, dictionary, food strainer, scissors, garbage bag, eraser, glue, candle, television remote control.
b. Place these items in a large basket or on a platter.
c. Pass the items around and ask your members to pick one.
d. Have group members tell the group how the item they chose reminds them of a characteristic of the Lord. For example: “God is like this white-out because he sees all my mistakes and one by one covers them in forgiveness. Those sins are gone forever, as if they never happened.”
e. After all members have had an opportunity to share their explanation, ask someone to lead in a prayer of praise repeating some of the words group members used to describe what the Lord is like.
