1. Write your name on a piece of paper vertically and then beside it write a current need you have that begins with each letter in your name. Here’s an example:
D—Discipline to keep up with my reading and other responsibilities
A—Attitude of love toward my wife and children.
N—New car to replace my old clunker.
2. Take turns sharing your “name needs” with your group.
Read 1 Timothy 2:1-7.
3. When you think about “kings and those in authority” today, is your first thought to pray for them, or to question and criticize them? Why, or why not?
4. Do you pray for those in authority so you can “live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness”? If not, what prevents you from praying this prayer?
5. What does it mean that Jesus Christ mediates between you and God?
Read 1 Timothy 2:8-15.
6. In this section Paul gives instructions according to the Christian’s gender. What do you gain from this personally?
7. For prayer time, go back to your “name needs” list. Pass your list to the person on your right and then go around the circle taking turns praying for the person whose paper you are holding.
8. Conclude your prayer time by thanking God that he is not a far-away God who cares little about our everyday affairs, but a God who loves to hear and answer our prayers.
